Red and Black Baby Quilt
This is not your typical baby quilt. No pastels or cute little animals, but I know it will be loved.
I made this quilt for my nephew’s new baby girl. He is a die hard Detroit Red Wings fan, so I wanted to incorporate that into the quilt.

I found a great Red Wings fabric. I didn’t want to cut it up too small, or it wouldn’t be recognizable.
The Easy Squares quilt is a great option for baby quilts. It is quick and easy, and is perfect for a focus fabric.
So that is what I decided to use. The Red Wings fabric is the large squares, and I used solid white and black for the smaller squares.
Using the Choose Your Own Adventure Easy Squares quilt pattern, I was able to calculate the best size to use the fabric that I had efficiently.

I found a great red and black checked flannel, which is perfect for the backing.
Simple windowpane quilting is my favourite option for an easy squares quilt, so I used that quilt design.
My daughter pointed out that this is actually a gift for the parents, not the new baby girl. I agreed that it is, as all baby quilts are.
There is no reason why baby quilts have to look baby-ish. My nephew loves this and I’m sure his daughter will too.
