Elizabeth’s Choice quilt block tutorial

The Elizabethโ€™s Choice quilt block is a variation of many traditional blocks. I couldnโ€™t find a name for this option in any of my resources, so I named it after myself.

This quilt block looks similar to the Marionโ€™s Choice quilt block, but it is constructed in a totally different way.

Make a nine patch

Using four feature squares, four dark squares and one light square, make a little nine patch block.

The light square goes in the centre and the feature squares go in the corners.

The finished piece should be 3-1/2โ€.

Make the snowball units

The side units for the block use a technique called stitch and flip or snowballing. You might recognize it from the Easiest Ever Flying Geese Method.

On the back of the rest of the feature fabric squares (8 of them), mark a diagonal line.

Place a square on a light fabric rectangle, aligning the edges.

Stitch directly on the line, then trim the fabric 1/4โ€ away from the stitching. (Fold back and press to reveal a rectangle with a triangle on the end.
