Elizabeth’s Choice quilt block tutorial
The Elizabethโs Choice quilt block is a variation of many traditional blocks. I couldnโt find a name for this option in any of my resources, so I named it after myself.

This quilt block looks similar to the Marionโs Choice quilt block, but it is constructed in a totally different way.
See how to make a 5โ Elizabethโs Choice quilt block in this tutorial.

Make a nine patch
Using four feature squares, four dark squares and one light square, make a little nine patch block.
The light square goes in the centre and the feature squares go in the corners.

Assemble this like any nine patch block – join the pieces into rows and then join the rows together.

Press the seams away from the dark fabric.

The finished piece should be 3-1/2โ.
Make the snowball units
The side units for the block use a technique called stitch and flip or snowballing. You might recognize it from the Easiest Ever Flying Geese Method.
On the back of the rest of the feature fabric squares (8 of them), mark a diagonal line.
Place a square on a light fabric rectangle, aligning the edges.
Stitch directly on the line, then trim the fabric 1/4โ away from the stitching. (Fold back and press to reveal a rectangle with a triangle on the end.

For more detailed pictures on this step, check out the Jackโs Blocks tutorial.

Repeat with the other square on the other end of the rectangle. Be sure that the seams are in the right orientation.
Block construction
Layout the block pieces as shown in the image.

Since it is a 3 x 3 layout, it can be assembled just like a nine patch block.

Join the pieces into rows, then join the rows together.
The final block will be 5-1/2โ square.
