Under the Apple Tree Quilt Block

“Under the Apple Tree” is a pattern for a traditional Black Beauty block embellished with hand embroidery.

The theme for July Quilt Block Mania is “Books”. I didn’t know of any traditional quilt blocks that went along with this theme, so I started doing some research.

I was surprised to find a quilt block called Black Beauty. This doesn’t look like a horse at all, but that is the name of a classic children’s book about the life of a horse.

There are a few different variations to this block, but I chose the one that has a sawtooth star in the middle and emphasized that with embroidery.

This block has a lot of little pieces, but if taken a step at a time, it isn’t too difficult.

This block is available in my shop, along with all the other embellished quilt blocks.
