Traditional Pojagi
Traditional Pojagi includes all the hand-stitching techniques that have been used in Korea for thousands of years.
These are used to make wrapping cloths (also called pojagi) and other items.
Hand stitching techniques
Get started with these basic hand-stitching pojagi tutorials.

If you have access to traditional Korean fabrics, they are wonderful to use. However, if they are not available to you, there are many other options.

Hand-stitched pojagi only requires a few basic tools. You probably have most of them already.

The lined pojagi seam is used with a lining or backing fabric. If you enjoy English paper piecing, you will like this technique.

The reversible pojagi seam is finished on both sides so there is no need for a lining. All the raw edges of the fabric are tucked inside the seam.
Pojagi Embellishments
Beyond the basic techniques, there are some beautiful embellishments used in traditional pojagi sewing.
Enjoy these in pojagi or use them to add interest to your quilting and embroidery projects.

Pinch stitch is made by stitching little pleats into fabric.

A bat knot is made with rolled fabric. I have used it to represent a flower in projects.

Try a project
If you want to try a hand-stitched pojagi project, I have some fun options.
Check out one of these projects or see the whole collection here.

A Coaster is a great beginner project because it is large enough to learn the patchwork techniques but it is also small enough to finish easily.

The Flower Bookmark is a useful project that contains many different techniques.

Pojagi stitched by machine
If you prefer using a sewing machine, you will enjoy these techniques that are inspired by traditional pojagi, but stitched on machine.
