Pink Nine Patch Sampler Quilt
This beautiful pink quilt is a “controlled scrappy” version of the Nine Patch Sampler quilt.
It is just the right size for cuddling up on the couch while watching a movie.

Pattern
The pattern is the Nine Patch Sampler quilt. Each of the traditional blocks are variations of a traditional nine patch block.

This is a fun pattern to learn and practice traditional quilting skills. You can make your own nine patch sampler quilt with the Learn to Quilt Bundle. It contains an ebook and full video instructions for making this quilt.
It begins with very easy piecing and then introduces skills like strip piecing and half-square triangles.
There is also inspiration for using each individual block in its own quilt.
Fabric
In choosing the fabric, I began with the border and sashing fabric. This print has all different shades of pink.

From that, I chose matching fabrics to use in the blocks. Each block uses only one fabric so the overall quilt is scrappy, but the individual blocks are not scrappy.
The blocks have a white background so they are clearly defined in the quilt.

Some of the pink fabrics are prints and some are solids, but they all have tones that match something in the print.
This was a great way to use up some of my pink scraps.

Quilting
This quilt would definitely not win any awards for the quiltling.

After stitching straight lines on the edges of the blocks with a walking foot, I decided to outlined the shapes in the blocks.
Because I didn’t want to turn my whole quilt around as I was outlining, I decided to outline with free motion quilting. If you’ve never tried it, it is very difficult to free motion quilt straight lines in the ditch.

When looking closely, you can see I was able to stay in the neighbourhood of the ditch, but my stitching lines do not stay in the ditch.
This is one of those things that is obvious when looking very closely but not as obvious from farther away. You can see on the back that the shapes are still recognizeable.

I left the imperfect quilting in the quilt and have never regretted my choice. This was never meant to be a quilt for competition, and everyone who has used it has liked it.
When you are quilting your projects, if it is not a competition quilt, you are the final judge and jury and if you are happy with it, just ignore what anyone else says.

Size
This is the medium sized version of the Nine Patch Sampler Quilt, so there are twelve 12″ blocks.
The 5″ border gives it a size of 52″ x 70″.
