Framed Snowball quilt block tutorial
In this tutorial, you will learn how to make a 5โ version of the Framed Snowball quilt block.

This block features a centre piece that is โsnowballedโ (in quilting terms) and then surrounded by a frame.
It is a perfect way to feature a fun print, some appliquรฉ or embroidery. Check out this post for more details about fussy cutting to feature a specific part of a fabric.

Make the snowball square
Mark a diagonal line on 4 of the accent fabric squares.

Place these squares on the corners of the light 3-1/2โ square and stitch directly on the marked lines.

Trim away the excess and press the triangles back.

The finished square should be 3-1/2โ with a triangle in each corner.

The finished piece should be 3-1/2โ.
Add the frame
Layout the block with the pieces for the frame. The accent fabric squares go in the corners.

The block is assembled like a nine patch – join into rows and then join the rows together.

Press the seams towards the dark bars.

The block will be 5-1/2โ.
