Bright Jewel quilt block tutorial
In this tutorial, you will learn how to make a 5โ version of the Bright Jewel quilt block.

This beautiful star quilt block is made with three fabrics – a light, dark and feature colour.

Fabric requirements
Everything you need to make this project.
dark fabric:
- twelve 1-1/2″ squares
light fabric:
- thirteen 1-1/2″ squares
feature fabric:
- four 1-1/2″ x 2-1/2″

Make the half-square triangles
Mark a diagonal line on 8 of the light fabric squares.

Place these squares right sides together with dark fabric squares. Stitch directly on the marked line.

Trim away the excess and press to make half-square triangles.

The finished pieces should be 1-1/2โ. You need a total of eight half-square triangle units.

Make the corner units
Layout two half-square triangles with a dark square and a light square as shown in the image.

Join the squares into pairs. Press the seams away from the half-square triangles.

The assembled corner unit should be 2-1/2″ square.

Block layout
Layout the block pieces as shown in the image.

Join the pieces together into horizontal rows.

Join the rows together.

The block will be 5-1/2โ.
