Details
These instructions are for a block that finishes at 5″ square.
Fabric requirements
Dark fabric: five 1-1/2″ square (black print)
Light fabric: four 1-1/2 x 3-1/2″ (white print)
Light background: four 1-1/2″ square (ivory)
Feature fabric: four 1-1/2″ square (pink)
Block Assembly
Layout the pieces as shown in the image.
Because this is a small block, accurate cutting and stitching is important. Check out these tutorials for using a rotary cutter and getting an accurate 1/4″ seam.

The centre of the block is a tiny nine patch unit.
Assemble this section by joining the pieces together in rows of three.

Join these three rows together to get the nine patch unit.
This piece should be 3-1/2″ square.

Once the centre part is complete, the next round will be added. Notice that this is another type of nine patch – three across and three down.

Join these pieces into three rows.
Press all seams towards the light fabric.

Join the rows together and the block is complete.
