Is it better to quilt by hand or machine?

Is it better to quilt by hand or by machine?

Details

Even thirty years ago, when free motion quilting and walking foot quilting were just coming on to the quilting scene, a lot of quilters considered them โ€œcheatingโ€. Hand quilting was what โ€œreal quiltersโ€ did.

But machine quilting did catch on and now it is more popular than hand quilting.

In fact, I have even heard people judge others because they do quilt by hand.

In my opinion, this whole debate is crazy. There is room in the quilting world for everyone, no matter what type of quilting they want to do.

You have the freedom to do your quilting by hand, on a domestic sewing machine, on a long arm or even tie it. The choice is up to you.

Unless you are entering your quilt in a competition, no one else should get a vote.

The best way to do you quilting is the method that you enjoy and that you will finish. You might even find that projects are different.

If youโ€™ve never tried hand quilting, maybe you want to learn it. Same with machine quilting.

Keep learning and trying new things and then use the techniques that you love.
