Squared Up quilt block tutorial
“Squared Up” is an easy quilt block made with squares and rectangles.
Because there are no triangles or diagonal seams, this is a great beginner block.
It uses three fabrics, so you can have fun playing with your own combinations.
See how to make 5″ block in this tutorial.

Tutorial
See each step in the process, with images to help guide you.
Layout the pieces
Layout the fabric pieces as shown in the image.

It looks like the pieces are the wrong size, but once the seam allowances are added, everything will line up.
Assemble the inner square
The first step of this block is making the inner square section.
Begin with the light centre square and add a feature square to each side.

Press the seams to the feature fabric.
Add the feature fabric bars to the top and bottom of this piece.

Press these seams to the feature fabric.
This section should be 3-1/2″ square.
Step Three
Once the centre unit is made, it can be assembled in rows like a nine patch block.
Join the pieces into rows.

Press the seams towards the light fabric.
Then join the rows together

Press well.
With small blocks like these, I like to use starch.
