Easy Drunkard’s Path Quilt Block
The Drunkard’s Path quilt block is an old traditional block. It gets its name from the curved pieces that look like someone trying to walk in a straight line but they can’t quite manage it.
Usually this block is made with curved piecing which intimidating for a lot of people. This version uses fusible applique to make the block quickly and easily.

Supplies and Tools
Everything you need to make a 12″ quilt block.

Fabric
- four 7″ squares of background fabric
- two 5″ circles each of colour 1 and colour 2
Other
- four 5″ circles of fusible web

Applique circles
Fuse a 5″ circle onto each background square, centring them.

Cut squares
Cut each square into quarters.
Each piece should be 3-1/2″ and have a quarter circle on it.

If you are going to finish the edges of the applique with machine stitching, do that now.
You will have eight 3-1/2″ squares of each colour.
Layout the block
Layout the squares in a 4 x 4 layout. Follow this layout or design one of your own. There are more layouts below for inspiration.

Once you are happy with the layout, join the pieces into rows with a 1/4″ seam.
Press the seams for each row in opposite directions.

Join the rows together to finish the block.
