Details
These instructions are for a block that finishes at 5″ square.
Fabric requirements
Dark fabric (black print):
- two 1-1/2″ x 2-1/2″
- one 1-1/2″ x 5-1/2″
Light fabric (white print):
- twelve 1-1/2″ square
Feature fabric (pink):
- twelve 1-1/2″ square
Block Assembly
Because this block is small, you need accurate stitching. Check out this post for tips on how to get an accurate 1/4″ seam allowance.
Make half-square triangles
Use eight of the 1-1/2″ light and feature fabric squares to make eight half-square triangle units using the Easiest Ever HST Method.
If you prefer a different method, you can use it, but you will need to cut different fabric sizes.
Place one of each fabric right sides together. Stitch from corner to corner, then trim the excess corner.

This piece should be 1-1/2″ square.

Make the corner sections
Join two half-square triangle units, one light square and one feature fabric square as shown in the diagram.

Join the pieces in pairs. Press the seams away from the HST.

This unit should be 2-1/2″ square.
Make four of them.

Block Layout
Layout the corner units with the dark fabric strips as shown in the diagram.

Join the corners to the either side of the short dark strips.
Press all seams towards the dark fabric.

Join the rows together and the block is complete.
