Marion’s Choice Quilt Block Tutorial
Marionโs Choice is a traditional quilt block that looks complicated, but when you take it a step at a time, it is easy to make.

This tutorial is for a 5โ Marionโs Choice block.
I donโt know this Marion is or why she chose this block, but this block made with three fabric colours is fun to make and a great addition to any quilt project.

Make half-square triangles
Use eight squares of each colour to make half-square triangles.
In this tutorial, I use the Easiest Ever HST Method, as shown. This is the best method for tiny half-square triangles. If you prefer to use a different method, you will have to cut your fabric differently.
On the back of the squares of lighter fabric, draw a line from corner to corner. (Donโt want to mark all the squares? Try this hack instead.)
Place a light and dark fabric square right sides together.
Stitch directly on the marked line.

Trim the corner, 1/4โ away from the stitching line.
Open and press. You should have a 1-1/2โ half-square triangle unit (HST).

Corner Units
For each corner unit, you will use two HSTs, a dark square and a feature square.

Join each HST to a solid square as shown in the image. Be sure that the triangles are pointing in the right directions. Press the seams away from the HSTs.

Join these pieces together to make a 2-1/2โ square.
You will need four corner units.

Block Construction
Layout all the pieces according to the image. All the feature squares should be on the inside of the block.

Assemble this block like a nine patch – join the pieces into rows, and then join the rows together.

The final block will be 5-1/2โ square.
