Building Blocks quilt block tutorial
In this tutorial, you will learn how to make a 5โ version of the Building Blocks quilt block.

This easy quilt block is made with identical squares of three different fabrics.

Fabric requirements
These are for a 5″ finished block. To make a larger block, just use larger squares. They are all the same size, so it’s easy math.
dark fabric:
- eight 1-1/2″ squares
light fabric:
- nine 1-1/2″ squares
feature fabric:
- eight 1-1/2″ squares

Layout the squares
Layout the fabric squares as shown in the image. The feature fabric makes a diamond and the light and dark fabrics echo the shape.

Join the rows
Join the squares into rows.

Press the seams so that the rows are in alternate directions.

Join the rows together.
Join the rows together. Pressing the seams in opposite directions will make it easier to align them when joining the rows.

The block will be 5-1/2โ.
