Make half-square triangles
Use the 3″ squares to make half-square triangles. This is the most popular method for making half-square triangles.
On the back of a lighter square, mark a diagonal line from corner to corner.
Place right sides together with a dark square and stitch 1/4″ away from the line on both sides.

Cut apart on the marked line and press. Each square will make two half-square triangle pieces.
Trim the half-square triangles down to exactly 2-1/2″ square.
Repeat with the other 3″ squares to make a total of 4 half-square triangle pieces.

Make the sides
Join four dark square and four light squares into pair.

Block Layout
Layout the pieces as shown in the diagram.
The single light square goes in the centre, the square pieces go at the sides and the triangle pieces go in the corners.

Join the pieces into rows and then join the rows together.

The block will be 5-1/2โ.

These blocks can be used in sampler quilts or alone. A Broken Arrow quilt has lots of secondary designs.
