How to finish the edges of window hangings
If you are making a pojagi patchwork piece to use as a window hanging, how do you finish the edges?
You could finish the edge with binding, just like a quilt, but I think itโs unnecessarily difficult.
When a piece is hanging in a window, you wonโt notice the contrasting colour, it will just look like a dark seam.
So I finish my edges with just a simple hem. This is easy to do and it allows me to change the orientation of the piece because there is no clear top and bottom.

Hereโs how to do the simple hem:
Trim the edges to be straight.
Fold over 1/4โ and press.
Fold over another 1/4โ and press.
Topstitch along the edge of the fold.
Thatโs how easy it is!
Do one side at a time, donโt try to stitch in one continuous loop.
I donโt trim down the corners, I just fold them under. If your machine has problems with the layers of fabric, try using a hump jumper and take it slow.
