Can you embroider with yarn?
Of course, you can try any fibre that you want to do hand stitching. Sometimes playing with new things will bring wonderful surprises.
Some yarns will be great for hand stitching and other yarns might break or wear down from being pulled through the fabric.
The most important thing to keep in mind is that your fabric has to be able to support the thread or yarn that you are stitching with.
You canโt stitch with a chunky yarn in a tightly woven fabric because it would be so difficult to pull through. But a fingering or sock weight yarn might work wonderfully.
On the other hand, if you have a loose weave like burlap, chunky yarn might be the best choice.
So think carefully about the base you are stitching on and what kind of fibre it can support. Yarn might be a good option.
And if you try something out and it doesnโt work, itโs not the end of the world. Abandoning a failed embroidery project doesnโt mean youโre a horrible person and it isnโt going to cause the world to end. It just means you had fun being creative and learned something new.
So next time you are wondering about using something for embroidery, try it out and see what happens.
