This week in the studio

I don’t have orphan sock syndrome! The second sock of my pair is finished. After I was totally finished and tried them on together, I realized that the rib pattern is slightly different between the two. I made a mistake in the second one, because in my overconfidence I didn’t follow the pattern as closely.

hand knit socks

It is glaringly obvious to veteran knitters, I know, but I just didn’t notice it when I was working on them. I am definitely not taking it apart to redo. I will wear them together. If anyone happens to notice while I’m wearing them, hopefully they will understand.

They are very comfortable and fit great. The pattern is Vanilla Latte Socks by Viginia Rose-Jeanes and is available on Ravelry. I used Comfort Sock yarn by Berroco. I have a lot of this yarn left over since I bought two 100g balls, and I only used about 1/2 of one for this pair. I’m still thinking about what to do with the rest of the yarn. I love the colours, but maybe I’ll try something else other than socks.

yellow scarf on loom

I’m still working away on making scarves on my loom. This is the second-last one, since they are all for Christmas. This one has white with red and blue flecks for the warp and yellow with red and blue flecks for the weft. The weave pattern is a zig zag twill. The last scarf should be done next week so I can get them all wet finished for Christmas.

blue knit dishcloth

I knit two more dishcloths this week. This wonky one happened when I tried to do one with an open-work part in the middle. The first half was not too bad, but on the second half I didn’t read the directions, lost track of counting and generally just made it up as I went along. In some things I have OCD tendencies, but they are balanced out by my laziness. I will definitely not take apart and redo a dishcloth. I’m sure this one is quite capable of washing dishes!

blue knit dishcloth

Even though I didn’t take it apart to fix, I wanted to try again and do it right. This is my second attempt. It isn’t perfect, but it’s much better. I’m sure if I make a third I will have it nailed, but I’m moving on to other patterns. I have a few more balls of this blue Peaches & Cream from my summer tent sale yarn haul and I’m enjoying knitting dish cloths right now. It’s great to do while watching Christmas movies.

blue and white quilt

I finished the quilting on my father-in-law’s Christmas quilt. I didn’t get the binding done in time for my guild meeting, but I took it unbound for show and tell.

blue and white quilt

I just did simple straight line quilting with a walking foot. It matches the design and is quick and easy to do. It is backed with flannel, so it should keep my father in law warm.

Only one week to Christmas, so I have lots to do, but it’s mainly cleaning 🙂 I’m hoping to do some table linens for Christmas dinner, but we’ll see if I get to it.

Have a great week!
